A Different Symmetry

TODAY'S ACTIVITIES
Sonya provided for a fun 2-sided collage, made with clear contact paper, bitghtly colored squares, feathers and sequins. Picking up and placing these teeny tiny sequins is great for super fine motor control. They came out great. The kids noticed that they look different from each side because of two things: 1) The reversed composition - "The feather was on that side, now it's over there!" Benjamin noticed; 2) "The red ones turn green on the other side." noted Mollie. The paper squares have the complimentary color on the reverse. Red/green, blue/orange, yellow/purple and black/white.
The Raccoons made their whirlygigs today, practicing their cutting and folding skills. Wednesday through Friday we wil be working on kites of traditional Korean design - very durable, easier to fly and great for tiring 'em out on the weekend as they run to keep the kites aloft.
TODAY'S STORY
That Bothered Kate, by Sally Noll. An older sister is bothered by her copycat younger sister, who mimics her dress, her activities and even her favorite ice cream flavor, "double-peppermint chocolate chip". As the little one begins to socialize with others, Kate begins to miss her. Soon they appreciate each others' individuality as well as the things they have in common.ANIMATED PAPER AIRPLANE INSTRUCTIONS!
